Seedlings with Carmen

Theme: Fruit (Trees) + Apple Picking!
On the origins of apples, our desire for sweetness, visiting a national fruit collection, tasting from ‘feral’ (roadside) apple trees, and foraging from a collaborative fruit tree map.

This month we’re reading about the origins of apples (a journey that involved bears, horses and later humans..) from Dan Saladino’s ‘Eating to Extinction’, and our desire for sweetness from Michael Pollan’s ‘The Botany of Desire’. Expect to explore the “textures of taste” in experiments with our “tasting wheels” and a conversation game with strangers!

Free event, though you will need to purchase food from Calthorpe for the taste experiment (vegan options available).

Please email aspacethatgives@gmail.com to join + for the readings
